Instructions
The system prompt, model, and temperature that shape every reply this agent gives.
General instructions
Free-form text describing the agent's role, tone, and what it should focus on — persona, business context, formatting preferences, anything you'd tell a new support hire on day one. This is the first block of the underlying system prompt.
Generate with AI drafts a starting set of instructions for you from a short description of your business, which you can then edit freely — it never overwrites a save silently, you still have to review and save it yourself.
Guardrails
A second, separate block stored under a ## Guardrails marker in the same system prompt — rules about what the agent should refuse to do, rather than what it should focus on. See the dedicated Guardrails page for what belongs here and how it's enforced.
Leaving this empty means exactly what it says: the agent has no restrictions on what it will discuss beyond the model's own built-in safety behavior.
Model and temperature
Pick which underlying model answers for this agent, and a temperature from 0 (deterministic, consistent wording every time) to higher values (more varied phrasing). Both apply to every conversation on every channel — there's no per-channel override.
Version history and Compare
Every save is snapshotted — model, temperature, and the full instructions text as they were at that moment. Click Compare to open a version list; picking one renders a real line-by-line diff against your current unsaved draft, with additions and removals both visible, not just a flat text dump. From there you can Restore a version, which replaces your current draft (model, temperature, and text) and still requires its own explicit save to take effect.
How instructions affect answers
Instructions and guardrails are prepended to every request, ahead of the retrieved source chunks for that message (see Data sources for how those are selected). The model sees, in order: your instructions and guardrails, the most relevant chunks for the current question, then the conversation so far. Changing instructions never re-indexes or affects your data sources — the two are independent, and either can be edited without touching the other.
